Peter Reports to the Church

Act 11:1  Now the apostles and brethren who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

Act 11:2  And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision contended with him,

Act 11:3  saying, "You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!"

Act 11:4  But Peter explained it to them in order from the beginning, saying:

Act 11:5  "I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, an object descending like a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came to me.

Act 11:6  When I observed it intently and considered, I saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air.

Act 11:7  And I heard a voice saying to me, 'Rise, Peter; kill and eat.'

Act 11:8  But I said, 'Not so, Lord! For nothing common or unclean has at any time entered my mouth.'

Act 11:9  But the voice answered me again from heaven, 'What God has cleansed you must not call common.'

Act 11:10  Now this was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven.

Act 11:11  At that very moment, three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent to me from Caesarea.

Act 11:12  Then the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered the man's house.

Act 11:13  And he told us how he had seen an angel standing in his house, who said to him, 'Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon whose surname is Peter,

Act 11:14  who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved.'

Act 11:15  And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning.

Act 11:16  Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, 'John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'

Act 11:17  If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?"

Act 11:18  When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life."

 

Paul Opposes Peter

Gal 2:11  But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.

Gal 2:12  For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.

Gal 2:13  And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.

Gal 2:14  But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

 

Paul’s Misstep.

 

Act 16:2  He was well spoken of by the brethren who were at Lystra and Iconium.

Act 16:3  Paul wanted to have him go on with him. And he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in that region, for they all knew that his father was Greek.

 

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

Gal 3:10  For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Gal 3:11  But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Gal 3:12  And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.

Gal 3:13  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Gal 3:14  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The Law and the Promise

Gal 3:15  Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.

Gal 3:16  Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

Gal 3:17  And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

Gal 3:18  For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

Gal 3:19  Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

Gal 3:20  Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

Gal 3:21  Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

Gal 3:22  But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

Gal 3:23  But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

Gal 3:24  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Gal 3:25  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

Gal 3:26  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Gal 3:27  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Gal 3:28  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Gal 3:29  And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

 

Paul Accepted by the Apostles

Gal 2:1  Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and also took Titus with me.

Gal 2:2  And I went up by revelation, and communicated to them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to those who were of reputation, lest by any means I might run, or had run, in vain.

Gal 2:3  Yet not even Titus who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised.

Gal 2:4  And this occurred because of false brethren secretly brought in (who came in by stealth to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage),

Gal 2:5  to whom we did not yield submission even for an hour, that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.

Gal 2:6  But from those who seemed to be something—whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God shows personal favoritism to no man—for those who seemed to be something added nothing to me.

Gal 2:7  But on the contrary, when they saw that the gospel for the uncircumcised had been committed to me, as the gospel for the circumcised was to Peter

Gal 2:8  (for He who worked effectively in Peter for the apostleship to the circumcised also worked effectively in me toward the Gentiles),

Gal 2:9  and when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that had been given to me, they gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

 

 

Luk 5:37  And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.

Luk 5:38  But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.

 

A New Commandment

Joh 13:31  So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him.

Joh 13:32  If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately.

Joh 13:33  Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, 'Where I am going, you cannot come,' so now I say to you.

Joh 13:34  A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

Joh 13:35  By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

 

The Church in Antioch

Act 11:19  Now those who were scattered after the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to no one but the Jews only.

Act 11:20  But some of them were men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus.

Act 11:21  And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.

Act 11:22  Then news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch.

Act 11:23  When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord.

Act 11:24  For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.

Act 11:25  Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to seek Saul.

Act 11:26  And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

 

Act 11:27  And in these days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch.

Act 11:28  Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar.

 

Act 11:29  Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea.

Act 11:30  This they also did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
