October 27, 2013 In chapter 9 we saw: 1. Jesus send out the twelve Apostles to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. They had great success. 2. The miracle of feeding the 5000. 3. Peter confession of who Jesus was. THE CHRIST OF GOD. 4. We saw the cost of discipleship. 5. The transfiguration. 6. The healing of the demonic son. 7. Jesus told of His coming death. 8. The disciples arguing who would be the greatest. 9. We saw what Jesus thinks about people speaking in His name, but not part of our congregation. 10. Samaria rejects Jesus, and the disciples want to call down fire, and destroy them, but Jesus says no. You do not know what spirit you are of. 11. Jesus closes this chapter with what is expected in being His disciple.
We are now ready for chapter 10;
Luk 10:1-16 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. · You will notice that one particular group today sends their young men out by two’s. And this is certainly a good idea if you have a calling program going. · We need to be praying about this. Do more inviting, and let people know our doors are open. Just as they were to preach the good news of the kingdom of God, we are too. · We remember the great commission in Matt. 28: Mat 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. (19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (2) Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. · The Lord knows there is nothing better for anyone than to attain the kingdom of God. So, He says pray that the Lord of the harvest would send forth laborers. · Christians have the most wonderful gift in the world to offer someone, and it’s free. Jesus. (3) Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. · We are not ask to be conquering warriors at this time, but meek little lambs. Christians are ask to be a passive people. Our attributes are love, gentleness, meekness, longsuffering, turning the other cheek. (4) Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. · Meaning God will supply your needs. Forget your wants, and attend to the kingdom. (5) And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. (6) And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. · You see, there are some that will want this peace, others will not. (7) And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. · As you can see this is not the way we would do it today. We would probably meet here at the church, have prayer, and then go out by two’s to talk to people about the Lord. (8) And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: · The Jews had guidelines for what they could eat, and what they couldn’t, but Jesus is saying don’t worry about that, eat whatever they set before you. Lev. 11. (9) And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. · If you are going in the name of Jesus do not hesitate to pray for the sick. You will be obeying the Lord, and then it is up to Him weather someone is healed or not. We are not the healer, He is. We are His ambassadors, we go in His name, in His authority. (10) But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, (11) Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. · This is the harshest thing that the Lord has instructed His disciples to do. He is saying, “you have rejected us, and now God has rejected you. (12) But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. · This is such a serious statement. All the wickedness that was in Sodom is very much alive in the U.S. today. There is no doubt, that because we have kicked God out of our schools, our government, and many lives, there will be severe judgment on the United States. · It is not hard to understand how much better things would be if God was still foremost in all that we do. This scripture is still true today; 2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. · But since the world has taken God out of everything, it is up to us Christians to make sure He is not taken out of our homes, and lives. I seriously believe that without God in our midst our children do not stand a chance in this life. The world will drag them down, and destroy them. · The Apostle Paul said this; 2Ti 3:1-4 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. (2) For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (3) Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, (4) Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; · This is a description of the world we are living in. So you can see it is important for us to continue talking about the things of God, and sharing the joy, and hope of the kingdom. To make sure our children are raised in a Christ like environment.
And then another rebuke: (13) Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. (14) But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you. (15) And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell. · Jesus here uses an example of cities that were of prominence, Tyre, and Sidon, but now are not. · Bethsaida, is where Philip, Andrew, and Peter lived. · Jesus is saying “you had a great opportunity to receive the kingdom of God, but refused. Tyre, and Sidon did not, but it will be more tolerable for them at the judgment than you. · It is just like Jesus speaking to the United States, think of the opportunities that we have. Yet, as a Nation we have chosen to fall away from God’s teachings, and are fulfilling what the Apostle Paul told Timothy would happen in the last days. · And Capernaum is where Jesus began teaching, and healing, when He left Nazareth. Matt. 4. AND THEN NOTICE: (16) He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me. · This is a truism today. If we are speaking the things of God, and in the Spirit of Christ, it is the same as Him speaking. There will be those that hunger for the Word, and others will reject it. ALMIGHTY GOD, HELP US TO DO THE THINGS THAT WILL BRING YOUR BLESSINGS BACK TO OUR COUNTRY, IN JESUS NAME. AMEN. |
