Triumphal Entry, The Day Of Visitation

April 1, 2012
Morning Service

Luke 19: 28-44

·                     This morning we start again the wonderful story of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.  There no doubt have been millions of sermons given concerning this event.  It is a glorious time in the life of Jesus.  A time when some of the people shout out His praises.  One time when He does not quench their praises of Himself.

·                     He is the Lord of Glory, He is the Great I Am, the Alpha, and Omega, the Beginning, and the End, His name is Wonderful, the Prince of Peace is He, the Everlasting Father, throughout eternity.

·                     It’s a time of joy, and anticipation.  The disciples expectation were great.  They still thought that He was getting ready to establish His earthly Kingdom in Jerusalem, even though He has told them 3 times that He must be arrested, tried, mocked, condemned to die on the cross, and that He would be resurrected the third day.  They just never accepted what He was telling them.

·                     So as wonderful, and joyous as this day is we know the following days will become the days of His sufferings.  We refer to them as the Passion week.

·                     There will be a community service at T.C.C. 10:30 on Friday.  I’m sure it will be worth attending.

Before we get into the Word let’s have a word of prayer:

Jesus was, and continues to be the Supreme Teacher.  He has just finished teaching the disciples concerning,

  • Rich young ruler.
  • How that He will reward sacrifice.
  • He tells them again of His upcoming death, burial, and resurrection.
  • Then He heals Bartimaeus.

NOW HE ASCENDS TO JERUSALEM:

Luk 19:28-44 KJVR  And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.  (29)  And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,  (30)  Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.  (31)  And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.  (32)  And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.  (33)  And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?  (34)  And they said, The Lord hath need of him.  (35)  And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.

  • It is amazing in itself that Jesus could ride this colt that had never been ridden, but the important thing about this event is that it fulfills prophecy.  Zec 9:9 KJVR  Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
  • First of all Zech. Says He is your King.
  • Then He is just.  Oh my!  How we need for someone to be just.
  • Then He has salvation.  You mean I can be delivered from my sins, and be pleasing to God?  YES.
  • And having all this power, and glory, He is lowly.  A HUMBLE SERVANT.  HE THE GREAT EXAMPLE IS, AND PATTERN FOR ME.  A SONG WE SING.

(36)  And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.  (37)  And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

(38)  Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

  • These that are praising, and giving glory to Christ, are those that He has touched with His ministry.
  • They are not the religious leaders that rejected His authority from God Almighty.  They would not humble themselves to receive His Word, and acknowledge that He was the very Son of God.

HOWEVER, I DO NOT LOOK DOWN UPON THEM WITH DISDAIN, AND DISGUST, FOR I TOO WAS LIKE THEM FOR A LONG TIME.  IT WASN’T UNTIL I HAD A GREAT NEED, AND THEN SOMEONE REMINDED ME OF JESUS.  NOT ONLY IS HE OUR KING, NOT ONLY IS HE JUST, NOT ONLY DOES HE ALONE HAVE SALVATION, NOT ONLY WAS HE THE HUMBLE SERVANT OF MAN, AND GOD,

  • BUT HE IS OUR DELIVERER.  HE CAN, AND WILL DELIVER YOU FROM ALL THINGS THAT SEPARATE YOU FROM HIS HEAVENLY FATHER.  IT’S GOD’S WILL.
  • HE IS ALSO OUR HEALER.  DAY AFTER DAY WE HEAR TESTIMONIES OF HOW PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HEALED BY HIM.  IT’S TRUE NOT ALL ARE HEALED, BUT THERE IS A GLORIOUS PLACE THAT WAITS FOR THEM THAT ARE NOT, AND IT’S CALLED HEAVEN.

AND WHEN HE HAS DONE THESE THINGS FOR YOU THERE IS NO DEVIL IN HELL CAN TAKE HIM OUT OF YOUR HEART.  I KNOW WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR ME.

(39)  And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.  (40)  And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

  • Do you see how the world would shut up your praise?  These people are not being outrageous, they are just praising their Lord.
  • We sing the song, “It is my time to sing.”  If we don’t the rocks will cry out, then who gets the blessing?  These could praise Him, for He had done something for them.

(41)  And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,  (42)  Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.  (43)  For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,  (44)  And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

  • I’m sure He still weeps over His creation, and the road that it is taking.  He knows what lies ahead for us, just as He tried to tell His disciples of the upcoming events in this story.
  • He tells them of the destruction of Jerusalem, which is going to happen in just a short 27 years.  Titus, the Roman General comes in and devastates Jerusalem.  WHY?

BECAUSE YOU KNEW NOT THE TIME OF YOUR VISITATION FROM GOD.

WE REJOICE, AND PRAISE HIM FOR OUR SALVATION, HEALINGS, AND DELIVERANCES, BUT DO WE KNOW THE TIME OF HIS NEXT VISITATION?  WILL WE BE CONDEMNED WITH THE WORLD?

JESUS GIVES US THE INSIGHT OF WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN MATTHEW CHAPTER 24.  ONE OF THE THINGS IS THE EXAMPLE OF THE DAYS OF NOAH.

  • Mat 24:37-39 KJVR  But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  (38)  For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,  (39)  And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
  • Mat 24:42 KJVR  Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
  • Mat 24:44 KJVR  Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

CAN WE NOT SEE THAT THIS IS A PICTURE OF THE DAY IN WHICH WE LIVE?

  • THE APOSTLE PAUL GIVES US WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT WHEN HE SAYS;

1Th 5:4-9 KJVR  But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.  (5)  Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.  (6)  Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.  (7)  For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.  (8)  But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.  (9)  For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,                      LORD JESUS, PLEASE GRANT IT TO BE SO.
