June 19, 2011 The character of Eunice is a lot like many of us. Deep down we know there is a God, but we have trouble when it comes to applying that to our lives. Why would the Creator of the universe, the one who hung the moon and the stars, really care anything about me? I am here this morning to answer that question with a question for you. Why would the Creator become one of His creations and walk among them and then allow them to kill Him? That is exactly what happened. Jesus, who this whole week has been based on, was God in the flesh of man. He came and dwelt among us and most of the world did not even recognize Him. Joh 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us. And we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and of truth.
“The Message” translates that “God pitched His tent among us.” Why would He do this? He came to fulfill two purposes. 1. Joh 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (17) For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. a. Where it says “the world” you can insert your name there. b. He came to save you because He loves you.
Save you from what? Sin has a price tag applied to it.
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. · Death means separation from God (your part in the lake of fire/hell) · Eternal life is spending eternity (forever) with Him in Heaven.
We have all sinned (Rom 3:23) and deserve death BUT: Jesus through His death on the cross paid the price tag for sin for us assuring us of a place in Heaven one day. He was the perfect sacrifice becoming our Savior.
Why? Because He loves us and desires a relationship with you.
I said God came and dwelled among us for two purposes.
2. Heb 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted just as we are, yet without sin.
· He knows what it is like to be hungry, hurt, cold, lonely and forsaken. He can sympathize with what you are going through. · It is always easier to relate with someone who has experienced the same problems you are going through. · We have been blessed with a new relationship with our Heavenly Father.
Heb 4:16 Therefore let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
· So don’t ever think God would not understand your circumstances or would think you to be unworthy of His mercy. You are His son or daughter. He will hear and answer you when you call.
Jesus came to fulfill two purposes: to be your Savior and your Friend.
The choice now falls to you this morning. You can choose life eternal with a God who loves you enough to give up His only Son for you OR you can choose not to choose and you will receive the wages of your sin, death.
Does that sound too simple? I was 12 when I chose life. It was a no brainer choice. But, then again age 12 is still a child and some of us aren’t children anymore. As adults things are more complicated, not the same anymore. Is it really?
Mat 18:2-4 And Jesus called a little child to Him and set him in their midst, (3) and said, Truly I say to you, Unless you are converted and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of Heaven. (4) Therefore whoever shall humble himself like this little child, this one is the greater in the kingdom of Heaven.
Eph 2:8 For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God,
Rom 10:9-10 Because if you confess the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. (10) For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses unto salvation.
This morning as we celebrate a wonderful week with our children, I ask you to believe as a child does, and humble yourself to accept this gift of salvation offered to you.
2Co 6:2 (For He says, "In an acceptable time I heard you, and in a day of salvation, I helped you;" Behold, now is the accepted time. Behold, now is the day of salvation.)
My prayer this morning is just as Jesus told Eunice, “today salvation is yours,” you can likewise accept Him as your Savior. |
