I Was Blind, But Now I See!

St.Jn. 9:1-11

Review:

1.       In chapter eight of St. Jn. Jesus told the people that He was the Light of the world.  The religious leaders didn’t like this at all.  They felt He was bragging on Himself.  So Jesus told them that He was the Light of the world because He always did what the Father wanted Him to do.  His witness, and the witness of the Father working in Him was witness enough that He indeed was the light of the world.

2.      It took the conversation to another level, and Jesus got very sharp with His speech.  At one point telling them they did not know God if they had they would have accepted Him, and what He was doing.  Then Jesus actually told them they were of their father the devil.

3.      And then to top off their confusion, Jesus told them that He was the Great I AM.  So they all went their way divided as to who Jesus truly was.

Let’s see what chapter nine holds for us this morning.

Joh 9:1-41 KJVR  And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.  (2)  And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind

  • This must have been a common belief in those days.  We understand that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, so that shouldn’t be case with this man.
  • I am sure that some sickness, and deformity has come from someone’s sin, even death.  It is more rampant today than ever before, with all the drinking, and dope that is around today.

(3)  Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

  • But this fellow was not blind because someone had sinned, it was that one day the Son of God would come along and heal him of his blindness, to bring glory to God Almighty.

(4)  I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.  (5)  As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

  • Again Jesus explains that the works that He does lights the world, and shows the way of God.

(6)  When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,  (7)  And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

  • Here again we see the importance of obedience.   He does what Jesus tells him to do.  Just a little while back we saw the woman taken in the act of adultery, and Jesus’ words to her was, “I do not condemn you, go and sin no more.”

Hopefully you can relate to what happens to this young man in the next paragraph:

(8)  The neighbors therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?  (9)  Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.  (10)  Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?  (11)  He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.

WHAT A POWERFUL TESTIMONY THIS YOUNG MAN HAS:

Here is a young man that has a tremendous need in his life, and He meets Jesus, and Jesus makes him whole.

What do you think Jesus sees today when He is passing through this world?

Let me assure you He sees all the pain, and heartaches that many people are experiencing today.

The Hebrew writer said, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

What is it going to take to get people to see, and understand that this same Jesus can make them whole today?

  • Maybe you know someone who has a need in their life.  Maybe some kind of life style that is causing them a lot of problems.  BRING THEM TO JESUS, AND HE WILL HELP THEM.
  • The Lord will help them just like He has helped so many that turn to Him, and walk in obedience to His word.

Just realize the importance of having a testimony like Jesus, and this young man.

  • Jesus said all He wanted to do was His Father’s will.
  • And look at this young man, and what he is now testifying too.
  1. I was blind but now I see.
  2. And it could’ve been, I was once a drunk but now I’ve been delivered, or I was hooked on dope, but I met Jesus, and He delivered me from the desire to do drugs.
  3. You go back among the people that once knew you the way you were before, and they can’t believe the change that has taken place in your life.  Where you once ran with the wild crowd, now you attend church every time the doors are open.  Where once you read the porn magazines, now you read your Bible at every opportunity.  You want to spend that time with your Deliverer, you love Him for what He has done for you.
  4. They might ask your parents “are you sure this is your child?”  I remember when my brother Jon was in Nam, and Mother was talking to him on the phone one day, and I came in to see her, and she told Jon, “you won’t believe what has happened to your brother.”
  5. Little did any of us know that all the trips to the altar when I was a young boy, at the Nazarene church, and the times that Mother took us the Presbyterian church, that one day this boy who knew that Jesus could fix his problems, would accept Him as Lord, and allow Him to turn his life around.  One Easter morning in 1969, at 29 years old, I hit the altar running, bawling, and crying out for mercy for all my sins.  Pastor Rogers came up, and said, “son you don’t have to beg God to forgive you, He wants to forgive you.”  He said “do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God?”  And when I said yes, there was a peace that come over me that words cannot describe.  After the Evangelist had come over, and laid his hands on me, and prayed, I floated back to my seat.
  6. And that is what this young man is experiencing in his life.  Can you imagine being blind, but now he can see?
  7. Can you imagine having a wrecked life, and watching it come back together?

This is what Jesus has for you this morning if you are willing, He is able.

If you recognize that you have a need this morning, why don’t you obey the Lord when He says, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.”  It won’t be the pool of Siloam, but it will be water that will wash all your sins away.

If you have a need this morning why don’t you come and let Jesus help you with that need?
