October 25, 2009 II Tim. 4:1-4
Review: 1. If you recall, we came to Paul’s writing to Timothy, because we wanted to know some of the things that the Apostle had taught him. Paul was sending him to Thessalonica to establish, and comfort the churches there. We hadn’t been out of Timothy but for a year, but I thought it would be good for us, while the thought of his knowledge was fresh on our minds. 2. There are so many good things in these letters, to these young evangelists, that they deserve reading once a year, on a home study basis. 3. We can almost sum up all the important things that Paul is teaching in the last 4 verses in chapter 3. 2Ti 3:14-17
KJVR But continue thou in the things which thou
hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; (15) And that
from a child thou hast known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee
wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (16) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness: (17) That the man of God may be perfect,
thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
With that said Paul
finishes his second letter to Timothy with another charge.
2Ti 4:1-22
KJVR I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and
the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
Ø
Mat 5:21-22 KJVR Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: (22) But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. Raca means senseless; vain;
empty-headed.
Ø
How do we talk about people? Do we take time to think about these things?
Ø
Mat 7:2 For with
what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Ø
So, I don’t know about you, but I want to look at people through eyes
of mercy, and forgiveness, so God will look at me like that.
Ø
Mat 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
Ø
If that doesn’t make us think I don’t know what would. That is close.

A PICTURE OF THE JUDGMENT IN A PARABLE: Mat
25:31-46 KJVR When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: (32) And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: (33) And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. (34) Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: (35) For I was hungry, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: (36) Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. (37) Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? (38) When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? (39) Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? (40) And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (41) Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: (42) For I was hungry, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: (43) I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. (44) Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? (45) Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. (46) And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Rev 20:11-15 KJVR And I saw
a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the
heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. (12) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand
before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the
books, according to their works. (13) And the
sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead
which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their
works. (14) And death and hell were cast into the lake
of fire. This is the second death. (15) And
whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of
fire.
(2) TIMOTHY, Preach the word; be instant in
season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and
doctrine.
(3) For the time will come when they will not
endure sound doctrine;
THEN PAUL SAYS,
but after their own lusts
shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; (4) And they
shall turn away their ears from the
truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
