August 23, 2009 I Thess. 3
Review: 1. Paul established a fellowship of the Lord’s church on his second missionary journey in Thessalonica. He is now writing them a letter from Corinth, commending them on their stedfastness, and growth. He reminds them of the hardships that he, and Silas suffered for the gospel’s sake. 2. How he wanted to return to them but Satan hindered him from doing so.
Paul concluded chapter two by telling them that they were his glory, and joy. Now chapter three.
1Th 3:1-13 Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone; (2) And sent Timothy, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:
Concerning divisions:
Concerning Unity:
And
again: Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge
of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the
fullness of Christ:
God has kept for us His Holy Word
down through all these years. He chose
the Apostle Paul to write two thirds of the New Testament full of instructions
for Unity, and not division. God builds
our confidence in Paul’s writings when Paul says in I Cor. 14; “If any man thinks himself to be a
prophet or spiritual let him acknowledge that the things I write to you are the
commandments of the Lord.”
(3) That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves
know that we are appointed thereunto. (4) For verily, when we were
with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came
to pass, and ye know.
(5) For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know
your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labor be
in vain.
(6) But now when Timothy came from you unto us, and brought us good
tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us
always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you: (7) Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction
and distress by your faith:
(8) For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.
(9) For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the
joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God; (10) Night and day
praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which
is lacking in your faith?
NOW PAUL PRAYS: The things most important.
(11) Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct
our way unto you.
(12) And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward
another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
(13) To the end he may establish your hearts unblamable in holiness
before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all
his saints.
WE SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT THIS PRAYER IS FOR US, AND ALL CHRISTIANS EVERYWHERE. IT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT TODAY AS IT WAS THEN.
MAY GOD
INCREASE OUR LOVE, THAT WE MAY BE WHAT HE WANTS US TO BE.
MAY GOD
HELP US TO LIVE A LIFE ABOVE REPROACH, AND OUT OF THE TEMPTERS GRASP.
EVEN SO, COME QUICKLY LORD JESUS. |
