Almighty God Of The Scriptures

2. Almighty God

Review:

This morning we discussed testimonies to the Word of God, our Bible.  We mentioned the very familiar scriptures concerning faith, and how important it is for belief in the Bible, and God.

This evening we want to look at the Word of God’s testimonies to Almighty God.

We saw this morning how important it is to believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God.  This is where we learn more about an Almighty God that governs the universe.

The first 5 books of the Bible are called the Pentateuch, or history books.  Then the Psalms, and the Prophets.

Pentateuch:  or history.

The first witness, or testimony of the Bible toward God is the creation.

Gen 1:1-2  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.  (2)  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

  • Here we see that God is called “the Spirit of God.”
  • Jesus later tells Nicodemus “that God is Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit, and truth.”
  • Paul said this concerning the creation:  Rom 1:20  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
  • Paul was arguing against homosexuality at this point, and the pride of men.

After creation, and later in Genesis God reveals Himself to Abram as Almighty God.

Gen 17:1  And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

  • God preparing to make Abram, or Abraham as later known, a great nation.  Making His covenant of circumcision with Abraham.  Later to be discussed, and explained by the Apostle Paul.

When God was commissioning Moses for his work, God told him this:

Exo 6:3  And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

  • God is now preparing to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt in which they had been in bondage for 400 years.

We find that in the times of Noah that Moses refers to God as Lord:

Gen 6:5-6  And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.  (6)  And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

  • The idea being, don’t get confused with the many names of God Almighty in the scriptures.  There are many.  Just remember this:

Eph 4:4-6  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;  (5)  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,  (6)  One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Then the Psalmist:

Psa 83:18  That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.

  • This is the understanding we get when we read and study the Bible.  Our God, who Jesus said was our Heavenly Father reigns over all the earth.
  • This is our only consolation is what is happening in our world today, as we see God bringing things to a close.

Then Isaiah:

Isa 12:2  Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

  • Isn’t this how we feel concerning God Almighty.

Do we have this kind of confidence in our God tonight?

Psa 27:1  A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

  • Do you remember this little guy that went up against a nine foot giant.  Later became King over Israel.

Isa 26:4  Trust ye in the LORD forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

  • Do we really trust Him for all our needs?  Jesus taught us that God knows what we need, and He will supply our every need.  Do you trust Him for this things?

Exo 15:2  The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him a habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.

  • Do you have this kind of joy, and faith in the Lord.  Is He your salvation this evening?  Is He your God?  Have you given Him your heart for a habitation?  Do you exalt Him in all you do?

Psa 118:14  The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.

THE SCRIPTURES TESTIFY TO AN ALMIGHTY GOD, WHO IS OUR EVERYTHING.  WE ARE HIS CHILDREN, AND WE NEED TO LEARN TO TRUST HIM FOR ALL OUR NEEDS, AND HAPPENINGS IN OUR LIVES.

THIS IS THE GOD OF THE SCRIPTURES.

LORD, GIVE US MORE FAITH, AND TRUST IN YOU!
