Galatians 5:15-26

Read  1-14;

Gal 5:15-26  But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

  • To be destroyed, or destroy your faith, and your walk with the Lord.

(16)  This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

  • One of the best ways is to do what Paul told the Phillipians;

Phi 4:4-9  Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

  • Rejoicing makes the heart, and mind happy, and on the right track.

(5)  Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

  • Moderation in all things, is what the Bible teaches.
  • The Lord is at hand.  I told you this morning be listening for the trumpet.

(6)  Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

  • You see that is a constant walk with God.  Trusting Him for everything in your life.

(7)  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

  • Do you believe God, then believe that He will keep you safe through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(8)  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

  • In order to walk in the Spirit we must learn to do these things.  No ifs, ands, or buts, we must learn to do them.  If you don’t you will not walk in the Spirit.

(9)  Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

  • For us today, obey the Word.  Study, and do what the Lord, and the Apostles teach us to do.

REMEMBER “YOU HAVE NOT BECAUSE YOU ASK NOT, AND YOU ASK AMISS THAT YOU CONSUME IT UPON YOUR LUST.”

ASK, AND TRUST GOD FOR YOUR NEEDS TO WALK IN THE SPIRIT.

NOW NOTICE:

(17)  For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

  • Now this can be an ongoing battle if we are not willing to sell out to God.  If we are willing to put God first in all that we do, this battle will continue to give us problems.
  • We will not be prepared to defeat, or resist Satan when he throws his fiery darts, and we will be defeated.  To much defeat brings discouragement, and eventually permanent defeat.   People just give up, and stop their walk with God.

(18)  But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

  • I believe what the Apostle is saying, is that because we are led by the Spirit, we are doing our best, with God’s help, to keep the laws that are given us, and therefore we are not breaking them, so they have none affect on us.  We establish the laws given us.

(19)  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,  (20)  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,  (21)  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

  • Remember this morning when I told you concerning the liberty we have in the Lord, and how that some use this wrongly, and bring disgrace to the Lord?
  • Listen;  Gal 5:13  For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
  • An occasion to the flesh.  Don’t misuse your liberty in the Lord, lest you destroy a weaker brother.
  • Don’t use your liberty to commit adultery.  Don’t use your liberty to commit fornication, don’t use your liberty to worship idols,  or to meddle in witchcraft, or to be hateful, or to be at variance with people, or to be wrathful, or to be filled with strife, or to be filled with seditions, or a murderer, or a drunkard, or to enter into revellings, and such.   You get the picture.
  • Just because we have been saved by the grace of God, and no man can pluck us out of His hand, we need not think we can live a careless life, and not receive correction from the Lord.

(22)  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,  (23)  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

  • And there is not law because people that are led by these attributes are doing their best to keep the laws.
  • When you love, you eliminate all the things of the flesh.  Just look at it.
  • Joy is going to keep your heart and mind on the right track.
  • Peace, a glorious attribute of the Spirit, and who doesn’t want peace?
  • This person’s mind is going to be stayed on God, and all these good things are going to show forth in their life.

(24)  And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

  • Have put to death, or put them out of their lives.

(25)  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.  (26)  Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

  • Not puffed up, not aggravating one another, or certainly not envious of one another.

LET US STRIVE TO DO THE THINGS THAT THE APOSTLE HAS ENCOURAGED US TO DO THAT WE MIGHT BE PLEASING TO GOD, AND TO MAN.
