Review:
1.
Heb
5:10-14 Called of God a high priest
after the order of Melchizedek. (11) Of whom we have many things
to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. (12) For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one
teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and
are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. (13) For every one that useth milk is unskillfull in the word of
righteousness: for he is a babe. (14) But strong meat belongeth
to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their
senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Heb 6:1-3 Therefore
leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto
perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works,
and of faith toward God, (2) Of the doctrine of
baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the
dead, and of eternal judgment. (3) And this will we do, if God
permit.
2.
The
Principles, or first things; REPENTANCE FROM DEAD
WORKS, FAITH TOWARD GOD, DOCTRINE (teaching) OF BAPTISMS, THE LAYING ON OF HANDS, RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD, ETERNAL JUDGMENT.
Today we are going to look at what
the Scriptures teach concerning the resurrection.
·
Quotes: It is
very remarkable that a doctrine of life after death as an essential part of
religion was of very late development in Israel, although this doctrine, often
highly elaborated, was commonly held among the surrounding nations.
·
Again: Much
speculation about life after death evidently existed, but it was not in direct
connection with the nation's religion. Therefore, the Old Testament data are
scanty and point, as might be expected
·
Again: That
Egypt held an elaborate doctrine of individual judgment at death, or that
Persia taught the resurrection of the body, would actually tend to render these
doctrines suspicious.
·
Again: Nonetheless, with a fuller knowledge of God, wider experience, and
deeper reflection, the doctrine was bound to come.
It’s like,
God revealed slowly, His divine will to mankind, through the Prophets.
Listen again to the Hebrew writer
as he begins this letter:
Heb 1:1-2 God who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto
the fathers by the prophets, (2) Hath in
these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the
worlds;
God revealed His will through the Prophets. Those who listened and accepted what the Prophets said went on with God, but those who didn’t were destroyed. PROPHETS
SUCH AS: David said; Psa 17:15 As for me, I will behold thy face in
righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
Job
said; Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth,
and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: Job 19:26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body,
yet in my flesh shall I see God: Job
19:27 Whom I shall see for myself, and
mine eyes shall behold, and not another;
Isa 26:19 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body
shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
Dan 12:2 And
many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to
everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
·
So we can see
that God was telling the people the things He wanted them to know, and even
then they were clouded as if looking through a glass darkly.
·
There were those that believed in the resurrection, and
those who didn’t. They sat at the same
seat of authority to govern Israel. Just like today in our society. We have believers, and unbelievers in our Government. All those Spirits are alive and active
today.
·
There is so much corruption in the world today, Christian,
we better be glad that we are just strangers, and pilgrims passing through this
ole world, and that it is not our home, but we have a better place to go,
prepared by God, for those who love Him.
GOD
ALMIGHTY SAID, “THIS IS MY BELOVED SON, HEAR YE HIM.”
JESUS
SAID; “Joh 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the
will of him that sent me.” AND
AGAIN; Joh 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know
of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
We have accepted, and do believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and by doing this we believe His doctrine, or teaching is the perfect will of God Almighty. THERE WILL BE A RESURRECTION OF THE BODY AFTER DEATH!
Martha understood the Lord’s teaching concerning the resurrection. She paid attention when He was speaking. She wasn’t so much concerned with affairs of this life, but she was in tune with God.
This would be enough, but God has
chosen to give us more faith building Scriptures concerning the resurrection.
We should understand that even though the people around Israel believed, and taught a resurrection, they had never seen one. THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST
IS THE MOST PROFOUND HAPPENING IN ANY RELIGION. THIS IS UNIQUE TO CHRISTIANITY. OUR LEADER LIVES FOR EVER MORE. HE IS NOT IN THE GRAVE, AS IS MOSES, AS IS MOHAMMED, AS IS BUDDHA, AS IS
ALL THE OTHER SPIRITUAL LEADERS. JESUS
LIVES.
HOW DO I KNOW THIS? I BELIEVE THE HOLY WORD OF GOD. THE WITNESSES THAT WERE THERE WHEN IT
HAPPENED.
These Apostles who
witnessed the resurrection of our Lord, gave their lives for this truth. Only John, who God used to write 5 letters
in the N.T. was spared from being killed for his faith. God allowed John to tell us of the impending
judgment after the resurrection, in the book of Revelation.
