Matt. 24

At the end of Matt. 24 Jesus said this;

Mat 24:45-51 KJVR  Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?  (46)  Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.  (47)  Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.  (48)  But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;  (49)  And shall begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;  (50)  The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,  (51)  And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

This part of Matt. 24 should ring in every preacher, and church leader’s ears constantly.  It is our responsibility ( to give you meat in due season. )  It is our responsibility to you, and to God, to encourage you to watch, and to be faithful till the end.  To be ever ready for the Lord’s return.

In this chapter of Matt. 24, three questions were ask by the disciples, when Jesus said this, “Mat 24:2 KJVR  And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”  Speaking of the temple.

Those questions were:

1.   when those things should take place?  The tearing down of the temple?

2.   what should be the signs of his own coming

3.   what should be the signs that the end of the world was near

THE DESTRUCTION OF THE TEMPLE:

·         Jesus says further down in this chapter, Mat 24:32-34 KJVR  Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:  (33)  So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.  (34)  Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

·        Meaning the generation that sees these things that He has just told them to watch for.

·        Generation or period of time; 100 years in the patriarchal age (Gen_15:13; Gen_15:16; Exo_12:40), afterward 30 or 40 years.  We have always accepted 40 years as being a generation.  However, listening to the DVD concerning the year 2012, with Dr. Jack VanImpe, he suggests 52 years as a generation.

Things for us to remember are:

·         Jesus said these things around the time of AD 33.

·         The church began on AD. 33, on the day of Pentecost, when Peter preached the first sermon.  All of our N.T. Scriptures were written before AD 70, ( the destruction of Jerusalem ), except the book of Revelation, which was written around the year 90AD.

·        So from the year 33AD to 70AD would have been 37 years, a generation, and these are the ones Jesus said would see these things take place.  Now watch and see If all these things couldn’t have happened in this time period?

Mat 24:4-33 KJVR  And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.  (5)  For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.  (6)  And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

  • Notice here He is referring to the end, “the end is not yet.”

(7)  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.  (8)  All these are the beginning of sorrows.

  • Today we readily jump on these scriptures, and say look, these things are getting worse and worse, and they are.  Definitely signs of the times, but they were also happening in the year 70AD.
  • I want you to notice how this next portion of scripture describes perfectly the period of time between AD33 and AD70.

(9)  Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: ( The Apostle Paul, and others) and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.  (10)  And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.  (11)  And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.  (12)  And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.  (13)  But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.  (14)  And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

  • A description of what was about to happen to this generation.  We see all this happening in the book of Acts.  Except the destruction of Jerusalem, we have to go to history books to learn this.
  • This gospel preached in all the world! listen to the Apostle;  Col 1:6  Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:
  • And then shall the end come!!  We have got to consider that Jesus meant the end of the Jewish economy; the destruction of the temple and city.

(15)  When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)         AD70

  • Dan_9:26-27; Dan_11:31; Dan_12:11 ;    Josephus relates that when the city was taken, the Romans brought their idols into the temple, and placed them over the eastern gate, and sacrificed to them there, “Jewish Wars,”

READ(16 – 26)   DON’T BELIEVE IT, STILL SPEAKING TO THIS GENERATION.  AD70.

THEN HE DESCRIBES HIS COMING:  SPEAKING TO ALL GENERATIONS.

(27)  For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  (28)  For wheresoever the carcass is, there will the eagles be gathered together.  (29)  Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:  (30)  And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.  (31)  And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.  (32)  Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:  (33)  So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

  • All this destruction and turmoil will happen at the Lord’s return.  The church has been promised deliverance from the wrath of God that is to come so we need to be ready for His return.
  • Jesus told us to watch for certain things to happen shortly before His return, and these things are happening.  One of the big ones is:

Mat 24:36-39 KJVR  But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.  (37)  But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  (38)  For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,  (39)  And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Can’t you see the days of Noah all around us?

I don’t know about you, but I feel exciting things are about to happen in this ole world!  We as Christians have been taught throughout our journey that one day our Lord would return, and I believe it’s nearer than we think.  The church has been waiting 2000 years for this to happen, and I believe it is at the door.

HAVE YOU MADE PREARATION TO GO WITH HIM WHEN HE COMES?
