Morning Service

We have been working our way to this point in our month long study on the “Passion Week.”  We have made our way through Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, His encounter with the religious leaders and His teaching on the Second Coming.  We had a great study on “The Blood” as we looked at the Last Supper and how Jesus is our Passover Lamb.  Things took a turn for the worse as we read about the Garden, the betrayal, and even Peter’s denial.  We saw the mockery of His trial and the brutality of the Romans as Jesus suffered through a horrific scourging.  Finally we saw the verdict being given and Jesus was headed to the Calvary.  Despite the terrible physical pain that has been afflicted upon Jesus, it is the spiritual burden of all mankind’s sin that awaits Him there.  It was on that “Good Friday” that the one perfect “Passover Lamb” was sacrificed for us.

Luke 23:26-49

“Watch the Lamb”

What happens after the cross is equally if not more important.  He was taken down and buried in a tomb with a large stone rolled in front and guards on duty to ensure no one stole the body.  Thank the Lord the story doesn’t end there!  What happens next is why we are here today.

Luke 24:1-40

“He’s Alive”

The fact that Jesus was resurrected and His life did not end on that cross had to be a tremendous relief to Peter.  But in the grand plan of God it had even greater implications. The Romans had crucified over 20,000 people and none of them arose from their grave. It is the fact that Jesus did arise that builds our faith that we do not believe in vain and are still in our sins.

I Corinthians 15:12-22

“My Redeemer Lives”

This is the Gospel message.  God in order to retain His true and faithful character had to have a perfect sacrifice to atone for mankind’s (mine and yours) sins.  He could not just look the other way; there was a price that HAD to be paid.  This was His plan from the beginning that He would come to us and pay that price Himself.  The big question is “Why?”

Joh 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  (17)  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him.

·         The answer is He loved us that much.

John 15:13-14 No one has greater love than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.  (14)  You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.

·         Jesus put His love for us into action, even performing the greatest act of love by giving His life for us.  He gave His all for us.

·         What does that do to your heart to know that He loves you that much?

·         Let His love for you stir up your love for Him.  Jesus said:

John 14:15 If you love Me, keep My commandments.

·         Individually and together let’s strive to live our lives in a manner that reflects that we not only believe in God, but love Him with all our hearts.

1Jn 4:19 We love Him because He first loved us.

“Oh How He Loves us!”
