We are now at the long awaited moment of Jesus’ resurrection. However, before we could get here, He went through a lot of mockery, and torture. We began the Passion week with His triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
6. Grace has a song to start us off on this journey. 7. On Wednesday evening we went with the Lord on His journey, through the trial with the Jews, then the Roman trial with Pontius Pilate, the mockery that the soldiers gave, the whipping He received at the hands of the Romans, and then struggling to carry his cross to Calvary. 8. Lorrayne has a song that speaks of that last journey. ( Dela Rosa )
9. Then the cross. Dick has a song. ( The third man. )
10. Steve has a song. ( Watch the Lamb. )
11. And then as everyone goes their own way, the disciples back to their homes. Jesus is buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathaea, it looks as if all is lost. Then we are given this account: · Mat 28:1-8 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. (2) And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. (3) His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: (4) And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. (5) And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. (6) He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. (7) And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. (8) And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. They no doubt went excitedly to tell the good news.
12. Revelations have a song for us: ( He is risen )
· Joh 20:1-10 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulcher, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulcher. (2) Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulcher, and we know not where they have laid him. (3) Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulcher. (4) So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter and came first to the sepulcher. (5) And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. (6) Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulcher, and seeth the linen clothes lie, (7) And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. (8) Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulcher, and he saw, and believed. (9) For as yet they knew not the Scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. (10) Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
13. No doubt as many of the disciples at this time were thinking all sorts of things. Lorrayne sings what one song writer thought might have been on Peter’s mind. HE’S ALIVE.
HE’S ALIVE AND I’M FORGIVEN, HEAVEN’S GATE IS OPENED WIDE. HALLELUIA.
Hopefully we can leave here this morning with as much enthusiasm concerning our Lord’s resurrection, and knowing that he is still alive, and sitting at the right of the Father interceding for us today. EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT EASTER. |
